“A Billion Hugs” was a Public Art Installation which filled the streets of London with uplifting messages throughout July, August and September 2022.
In 2005, I left my job at a Mayfair art gallery due to a major burnout and as I stepped out of the building for the last time, I saw a big red double decker bus drive past advertising a horror movie and as I felt that low, dark, negative energy, I thought: “How depressing! Wouldn’t it be so much nicer to see something more uplifting, something more joyful like 'I Believe in You' to remind people to believe in themselves, something that might just stop someone from taking their own life today…”
I vowed there and then that one day, I would put uplifting messages on the sides of buses and so many years later I finally made it happen.
